Onsite

We have almost 20 acres for you to explore overlooking Blackton Reservoir including waterfalls, woods and meadow, which are all a haven for wildlife including some of the UKs rarest birds such as Black Grouse, Curlews, Sandpipers and Oyster Catchers.

As well as offering fine fishing for the fly-only sportsman, Blackton Reservoir has several attractions for anyone interested in nature at her unspoilt best. The area around the western end of the reservoir is protected as a wild nature reserve, and nearby on the north shore “Hannah’s Meadows”, consisting of two hay meadows and a grazing pasture, are now owned by the Durham Wildlife Trust, and kept as a site of Special Scientific Interest.

Only fly-fishing from the bank is permitted, with a daily bag of 8 fish, minimum size 23 cm (9″). The season extends from 22nd March to 30th September for Brown Trout, and from 22nd March to 31st October for Rainbow Trout. Permits are available from the visitor centre at Grassholme Reservoir.

Blackton Reservoir is also one of the darkest places in the UK, with very little artificial light you will be amazed at the number of stars you will see in the sky.  Book a trip during one of the annual meteor showers and you will be blown away by number of shooting stars you will see, especially if you are sat in our hot tub at the same time!

For rock climbing enthusiasts Goldsborough Carr is a short walk away.

To round off the outdoor adventures available canoeing and sailing is on offer at Grassholme Reservoir, which is a five minute drive away.
